Moonrise over Kelsey's Bay
The Duck Lake Cottagers' Association (DLCA) is a not for profit corporation organized in 2005 from an earlier unincorporated organization. The association members are owners of property on Duck Lake who volunteer their time and money on behalf of the Association. The purpose of the DLCA is to maintain and enhance the quality of life on Duck Lake: environmental stewardship, water quality, boating safety, community relations, lake access, cottage security, and more.
A) Environmental Stewardship:
Education through our newsletter, website and postings on our bulletin board on topics like species protection, monitoring for invasive species, protecting water quality. Support for Argyle Fish Enhancement Program with volunteers and encouraging donations. DLCA participated with the MNRFP that added rock to the natural spawning beds.
B) Water Quality:
The DLCA Lake Steward conducts annual lake water testing and submits to the Lake Partner Program of FOCA and MNRFP. Tests include measurement of water clarity, phosphorus content, etc.
C) Boating Safety:
DLCA encourages awareness of boating courtesy and safety regulations through education, posting of signs, newsletter communications etc.
D) Community Relations:
Liaison with various government organizations, MNRFP, federal, local LSB and Roads' Board.
Encourage lake residents to know and support one another. Welcome new residents and share information on the DLCA and local area. Hold lake community events like annual picnic and the boat decorating contest.
E) Lake Access:
Access to Duck Lake at the current dock site was gifted to the community by George Lee many years ago. Over the years the dock has been maintained at various times by interested individuals, the Roads Committee, residents of Duck Lake and currently, the DLCA. The dock and access to it were formalized when the Ministry of Transportation designated the dock as a public ferry dock with access via right of way. The DLCA is charged with maintaining the dock and parking area in order to keep its current designation and public access.
As part of the ongoing role of the DLCA, a project to replace the old dock was begun in 2018, and concluded in 2022. We now have 2 sets of floating docks with launching space between them. The funding of the entire project has been provided by the private donations of dozens of families in the community. Construction labour has been all volunteer. THANKS ALL!
No government funds have been provided.
F. Cottage Security:
DLCA members who have requested access to the private pages of this website have access to a map of the lake with the EMS number for each cottage and a list of phone numbers and email addresses for each cottage that participates in this homegrown version of a cottage watch program. Click on the COTTAGE WATCH tab above.
If you see criminal behavior, call the OPP at 888-310-1122 (toll free in Ontario). If you see something suspicious or something like storm damage at a cottage on the lake, look the cottagers up on the map and let them know what you saw. We are all in this together.
